Alfred Wallis Heritage Cushion – A Window to “What Used to Be”
Celebrate the raw charm and quiet poetry of British folk art with this beautiful cushion featuring a painting by Alfred Wallis – a self-taught artist whose life was as textured as his work. Once a seaman, ice cream seller, and rag-and-bone man, Wallis only began painting in later life, capturing scenes from memory — what he called “what used to be.” His works speak of a remembered past: fishing boats, rugged coastlines, and the honest life of the sea.
In 1928, Wallis was discovered in St Ives by professional artists Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood, who were drawn to the instinctive, ‘naïve’ quality of his art. To them, Wallis embodied a rustic, timeless spirit — a living thread in the fabric of English cultural heritage.
Lovingly handmade in the UK, this 100% cotton/linen blend cushion cover offers a natural texture and feel that perfectly complements the heritage aesthetic. The design is printed on one side only, with a thick white cotton back, and is finished with a concealed zip for a clean, tailored look. Supreme feather insert is included!
